Questions and answers
Should I set up as a sole trader or a limited company?
It depends on how much profit you expect to make, your plans for the business and your personal circumstances. Being a sole trader is simpler; a limited company can be more tax efficient at higher profits and keeps your personal assets separate, but comes with more administration. We'll go through the options with you.
When do I need to tell HMRC I've started working for myself?
If you're self-employed, you need to register for Self Assessment by 5 October after the end of the tax year in which you started. For example, if you started trading in the 2025/26 tax year, which ended on 5 April 2026, you need to register by 5 October 2026.
Can you help me set up a limited company?
Yes. We can complete the registration with Companies House and HMRC and deal with the company secretarial side, so your company is set up correctly from the start.
