How switching to Oak works
- Free initial consultation. We talk about your business, what you need and anything that's worrying you about the move.
- We agree the work. When you're happy to go ahead, we'll set out in writing what we'll do for you.
- We contact your old accountant. Accountants are expected to pass on the information a new accountant needs when a client moves. You just let them know you're moving on, and we'll ask them for what we need.
- We become your agent with HMRC. With your permission, we're authorised to deal with HMRC for you, so letters and queries come to us.
- We pick up where they left off. We check every upcoming deadline is covered, and look at whether cloud software like FreeAgent or Xero could save you time.
When is the best time to switch?
You can change accountant at any time of year. Many people move once their accounts or tax return have been filed, but if you're unhappy there's no need to wait: we'll check what deadlines are coming up and make sure nothing is missed in the handover.
Questions and answers
Will I lose any information when I change accountant?
No. Your previous accountant passes on the information we need, such as your last accounts and tax returns, and your own records stay yours.
Do I have to tell my old accountant myself?
It's courteous to let them know you're moving on, but you don't need to manage the handover. We'll contact them for the information we need.
Can I change my accounting software at the same time?
