Your limited company's yearly deadlines
Every limited company has a set of deadlines to meet each year. The main ones are:
- Annual accounts, filed at Companies House, normally within nine months of your company's year end
- Company tax return (CT600), filed with HMRC within twelve months of the end of the accounting period, with any corporation tax usually due nine months and one day after it
- Confirmation statement, filed at Companies House at least once a year to confirm the company's details are up to date
- Directors' personal tax returns, where directors take dividends or have other untaxed income: see Self Assessment
Missing any of these can lead to automatic penalties, so we keep track of the dates and let you know in good time what we need from you.
Sole traders and partnerships
Not a limited company? We prepare year-end accounts for sole traders and partnerships too, and use them to complete your Self Assessment tax return.
Making the most of your accounts
Your accounts are more than a legal requirement. Our mission is to see behind the numbers to the heart of your business, so we'll talk you through what your figures show. If you'd like regular figures through the year, see our bookkeeping and management accounts service.
Questions and answers
When are my limited company accounts due?
For most private limited companies, annual accounts must be filed at Companies House within nine months of the company's year end. A company's first accounts are normally due 21 months after the date it was set up.
We'll confirm the exact dates for your company and remind you before they come round.
Do you work with sole traders and partnerships as well as limited companies?
Yes. We prepare accounts for sole traders, partnerships, limited liability partnerships and limited companies.
Can you take over from my current accountant part-way through the year?
Yes. You can change accountant at any time of year, and we'll make sure upcoming deadlines are covered in the handover. Read more about [switching accountant](/switching-accountant).
